An English-speaking psychologist in Denmark

If you have moved to Denmark and want to talk to a psychologist in English — properly, in your own words — you can book a session with me directly. No referral, no waiting list, no Danish required.

Who this is for

Most of the people who come to me are internationals living and working in Denmark: in Jutland around Vejle, Billund, Kolding, Fredericia, Horsens and Aarhus, and across the rest of the country. Many work for international companies, some are here with a partner, some are studying. What they have in common is wanting to talk about what is weighing on them in a language they think in.

Common reasons people get in touch: stress and burnout, anxiety and worry, low mood, relationships and family, and the particular strain of building a life in a new country — loneliness, decisions, a sense of being between places. I know that last one from the inside: I grew up in Germany, studied in Scotland and England, and have made my home in Denmark.

How I work

I am a psychologist with a PhD from Lancaster University. My approach is warm and direct, grounded in evidence-based methods — chiefly acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), systemic and schema therapy, and emotionally focused therapy for couples. Everything you tell me is treated in strict confidence.

Sessions are online, by secure video, so it makes no difference whether you are in Billund or Bornholm. You choose a time directly in my calendar and get a confirmation straight away.

Why not go through the Danish system?

You can, and for some situations you should — your own doctor (egen læge) is the route to publicly subsidised psychology and to psychiatric care. But that route needs a referral, usually involves a wait, and the psychologist you are assigned may not work in English. If you would rather start this week, in English, with someone who understands the expat situation, that is what I offer.

If at any point I think you need something I cannot give you — a doctor, a psychiatrist, emergency help — I will tell you so and help you find it.
